ParaReading

It is so true – when all of our educators are knowledgeable, instruction takes on a broader effectiveness for our students. There is no reason why paraprofessionals cannot also benefit from training in the science of reading, the five components, and best teaching practices.

ParaReading emerged from the training materials Dr. Glaser created for her dissertation research. This was during the time of No Child Left Behind when qualified teachers and paraeducators were a prominent focus. Also, during that time 87% of Title-One schools placed the neediest students with non-certified personnel for intervention.

Dr. Glaser wanted to test the hypothesis that non-certified educators could make a critical contribution to student reading growth when trained and supported in their work. The outcomes were astounding. Students working with trained paraprofessional teachers showed increased gains in reading fluency greater than students without the instructional support! ParaReading has been widely used as a training for elementary paraeducators, parents, and teachers who benefit from a deep introduction to the five components.

To offer ParaReading in your schools and district, every trainer will need the ParaReading Training Kit. Each individual attending a training will need a ParaReading Participant Workbook.
